Folly Fishing Follies

In addition to Winston's love of all things sports (except swimming, I think that has already been established), the boy loves to fish. When we were in VA a few weeks ago, Joe took Winston to his old stomping grounds and they fished in the pond where Joe grew up fishing with his Dad. It was a nostalgic afternoon for Joe and we were all sad that Joe didn't take the camera that day.

Ever since we got our Gold Pass to the County parks and Winston perused the coupon book of freebies, he's been begging to redeem the coupon for a free 1/2 day fishing pass at the Folly Beach pier. We've had something to do almost every weekend so Saturday was the day - those boys were up and on the road before 7am that morning headed for the pier and a day of fishing.

A day of fishing it was....they boys arrived home with a cooler of 8 fish. They caught a few baby sharks too but they had to go be thrown back in. This was after one of the babies bit down fairly hard on Joe's finger...Daddy might have improved his cool factor with the war wound...Daddy was bitten by a shark! RADICAL DUDE!

Joe said Winston was in heaven pulling his catch in and watching other fishermen reel theirs in too. They got home and commenced with the grossness...cutting off heads and preparing their catch for dinner. Lilly watched in horror as Joe sliced and diced; Winston was finding enjoyment in all the carnage...no surprise there.

Joe and Winston had a good old fashioned fish fry Saturday tonight. I must admit, I am not a huge fried fish fan and don't love picking through bones but not bad, not bad at all for a day at the pier. And I'd say catching and preparing your own dinner is sure cause for a red plate meal don't you agree? (Don't mind the one rogue zucchini on his plate...he wanted to try one and decided after checking it out, he'd stick with the fish and mashed potatoes thank you very much).

I hope Winston will look back someday and smile remembering his days of fishing with Daddy. I think his Daddy sure smiles alot thinking about it even now.
