Holiday Catch Up

As usual, I'm a holiday behind....here's a recap of Thanksgiving.

We went to Charlotte to my cousin's house (also known as Auntie and Unc Unc to Winston and Lilly). The plan was the meet Mom and Dad there which would cut a car trip down to just 3 hours for them and 3 hours for us.

In a sad and unexpected change in plan, Dad woke up Thanksgiving feeling really bad and was not able to travel. It was a super sad morning and a bit of a reality check for me as to just how much the "C" word had infiltrated our lives. After a breakdown or two,we went about the day preparing a wonderful meal and enjoying time with the kids and Auntie and Unc Unc.

Our meal was made by me and my cooking partner, Janet, and was quite lovely if I do say so myself. In keeping with tradition, Joe carved the turkey, made the gravy and the kids sampled and pulled the wishbone. We had the traditional menu and there was SO MUCH food left....we froze as much as we could to deliver to Mom and Dad so they could enjoy it later.
Much to Winston's delight, the tooth fairy DID find him in Charlotte. He lost another tooth and was very concerned about the fairy's GPS system and if she knew about the missing tooth since it fell out in a different state. He packaged said tooth carefully and tied to the door of his room so as not to risk the tooth getting lost underneath a pillow not his own!!

We headed back to SC on Friday but not before we spent a few glorious hours at a REAL shopping mall finding a few Christmas deals. We had lunch at Cheesecake Factory and for 2 hours, life seemed normal again. It was a much needed diversion for sure.

We arrived back in time to unpack, settle in and begin the cleaning frenzy before the red and green rubbermaids made the annual trek out of the attic and down the stairs. I do love sparkly, clean halls to deck!!!

So we are now in full Christmas swing....more about later, after all - let's put an official wrap on Thanksgiving first!!! All in all, it certainly wasn't the happiest of Thanksgiving days and not at all like we'd planned it to be but you know what, there were still more blessings in front of me than I could even count.

Next Up....a very belated birthday present for the boy in the house and our tree.....our beautiful and perfect Christmas tree....she's a beauty ya'll...wait til you see it!!
